TGP Internship Program
The required internship is a signature activity of the program. Each student is required to complete an internship in one of many therapeutics-related fields (see graph below for prior examples). The primary goals of the internship are to help students make informed career decisions, provide the opportunity for real-world hands-on training experiences, and develop a personal network that will open career doors. Internships are typically 2–4 months in duration and are often completed at the end of the G4 year but can be completed at any time during a student’s program that works best for them and their PI. Some students use the internship to learn a specific technical skill in an industrial setting. Many use it as a next step to a career placement at the end of their dissertation research.
Students may benefit from visiting the HMS Career Navigator, which provides HMS students a variety of helpful resources for job searches, wellness, and professional development, as well as GSAS’ Academic Job Market Materials page and the Mignone Center for Career Success, which houses Crimson Careers, a centralized hub for jobs and internships exclusively for Harvard students.
To date, our students have had internships in a variety of therapeutic-related companies including: Biogen, Foundation Medicine, Genentech, Novartis, Pfizer, Regeneron, Sanofi, Vertex, and many more!
